The warmest of welcomes to The Hills, where good food, good company and good conversation add up to the good life.
My abiding passion is simple country living, and The Hills is my home on the internet where I share my favourite rustic discoveries. From hearty food and idyllic walks to the very best of rural staycations and innovative business, The Hills promotes the too-often unsung heroes and beauties of our British countryside.
For too long I felt that these hidden gems needed a quality platform from which they could really display their worth, and The Hills is my response to that long-held belief.
I suppose The Hills is really my online journal, peppered with my thoughts, dreams, plans, celebrations and recipes. Above all, we strive to be authentic; it’s filled with the places I truly adore, the food I really eat, the books I need to share and the people whose talents and skills I simply have to shout about!
Julie Andrews was right - the hills are alive, and they’re alive with vibrant communities, creatives and crafters, inventive enterprises and fresh thinking. I hope that you’ll become part of our ongoing conversation here at The Hills, sharing your thoughts, experiences and advice and engaging with other countryside lovers.
So, what do you say? Care to join us for a coffee and a taste of simple living?
Let’s dive in.
Country walks in clear air with the dogs; delicious food served in front of a cosy pub fire; great company in which chat and laughter is intermingled and, above everything, a deep love for the place you live. That’s what the good life means to me.
I’m Janet, and I live at the foot of the beautiful Welsh Hills with my children Mary, 20, and Mark, 16. We share our four-acre plot with our six dogs, six cats (plus a cheeky regular overnight visitor!), four hens, an assortment of wild ducks and all the other wonderful wildlife that visits our garden.
My dream was always to live surrounded by animals and land. In our teens my best friend and I said we were going to live together forever in a big house, divided into two halves so that our families could live side by side. She would have the side looking out towards to the sea and I would face inland. Well, she now lives happily on the south coast of Brittany and I have settled here, so I suppose we’ve achieved our goals in a way!
Now I want to share the joys of my life in the country and invite you to read all about it here in The Hills. It isn’t a glamorous life but it is wonderful, healthy and hearty and full of the very best of people.
I can’t wait to tell you more!
